CORRUPTION AU MEME

The Sword Army pursues the Retrograding Army through history, encountering familiar settings and reliving old memories. Though strong, with every change in time and setting, the swords dread the old memories. As they fight to preserve history as it is meant to be, the Sword Army must steel their hearts and resist temptation lest they come to fight themselves…

A popular fan theory is that the enemy swords you fight are actually your swords from an alternate universe who wished to change history. For this meme, feel free to make up your own starters or use one of the prompts below. Remember to state if your character is corrupted, not, or if you have no preference.

PROMPT IDEAS

1. How could you let this happen? They wanted to be left alone, their mood was poor, and maybe you should have noticed the signs but now that you have, it’s too late. They can’t stop these thoughts in their head and something in their soul has turned dark and ugly. Is it too late? Maybe you can get through to them… if not, are you ready to draw your sword?

2. Possession. Even the smallest trace of doubt can attract them— evil spirits. Once the dark spirit has latched on to your soul, it takes over and consumes you. Maybe the possession is gradual or maybe it happens suddenly. All you know is that everyone has regrets and anyone can doubt… this could happen to anyone.

3. Cry Wolf. We fought the same battles and shared the same meals together so it was only natural that we would be considered allies and friends. The fateful moment approaches and suddenly it is revealed: One of you is not a true friend. There is a traitor among you.

4. Becoming your own enemy. Your mission is to go back in time and let things happen as they were meant to be but their fall into despair was never supposed to happen, right? And so you went back in time to prevent their misfortunes but you keep failing again and again until, this time, you think you’ve got it. This time, you’ll be able to save your friend - but will you be able to save yourself too?

5. Reborn again. When destroyed in battle, the sword disappears only to return again anew. You can’t choose the fate you’re born with though and this time, someone has returned… from the wrong side.

Sayo can faintly hear the windchime. On a quiet night like tonight, the sound seems to stand out in the silent night. Strong... He is strong, or else he wouldn't be here. He survived many injuries and surprise attacks, just to repay the enemy for each blow. But that's if he can withstand the attacks in the first place.

"Yes... I have to be, if I want to take revenge."

In the beginning, revenge was just simply a fact for Sayo. But somehow, despite his initial distrust, he grew to care about the other swords. Revenge became...personal for him, more so than before.

"I'll be fighting hard...for everyone." Sayo looks up at Mikazuchi as he say that. When he means by everyone, he means it. Mikazuchi, too, was among them.

He may seem hard to get along with initially, but Mikazuki knows he is compassionate in nature. Revenge, a bit of a straightforward thing when it comes to dealing a blow at the one he held a grudge against, or so it seemed.

"I am glad that you want to fight for all of us, I am sure everyone will be happy to hear that."

The elder blade turns to Sayo.

"Perhaps I am the same as you. I think I might be taking revenge for all of you as well, now that I think about it. Though perhaps who we draw our blades at would be what makes us different."

Mikazuki's words got Sayo's full attention. Or to be the exact, the mention of revenge do. It also sounded like the older sword is thinking of someone, the target of his revenge maybe.

Sayo wished to draw his blade towards the Retrograding Army. If it's not them, then who?

"...Who do you want revenge on?" A simple question, one he asked before to others. To the saniwa when he was first forged and sometimes, to other swords if the topic ever comes up.

"The one who has yet to realize the feelings that we all keep within our hearts."

Anyone sharp enough could guess. After all, they too knew what they felt within. Most of them did not dare to speak outright due to the risk of being deemed a traitor to the cause.

Ironically, it is this that starts to breed the traitor among their ranks.

He can make a reasonable guess, based on it and his own feelings about everything. The saniwa. Who else in the army would be ignorant of their feelings? No one else but their own master, sleeping soundly at this hour. Sayo keep quiet, all too aware of how risky it is to speak plainly about this.

To have revenge on the saniwa. It's...almost fitting, to him. When one own's actions earned them dark emotions from others, it's only normal if the people acted on it. It's simply a matter of their resolve and methods that determined their revenge's success.

"If you can... How will you do it?" Sayo asked quietly. While this war council will be for the squad heading out tomorrow, who else might be out and about?

"I will talk to the other members of our team." The ones that shared the same sentiments, those who were victims of their own master's actions.

"Tomorrow, instead of going back to Atsukashiyama, we will head for a different time. A time where our master will not be aware of, so that we can carry out our duty."

Their duty to protect their loved ones, and their future.

A time other than Atsukashiyama. A part of Sayo feel relieved about it, on the other hand, he's curious about where they will go next. He gives him a curious, questioning look, before he slowly nods.

Where ever they're going, Mikazuki would have put in a lot of thought into it to even suggest this. Certainly a lot more thought than the saniwa did on this sortie.

"I understand... I'll be waiting." The others aren't here yet, so he can sit here and wait for them. At the moment, he doesn't feel sleepy at all.
