[The Citadel is huge, so it's a good thing they have all the time in the world to dick around.
--Well, no, they don't. But the point is, it's a free day. There will be absolutely no work done at all. Unless you want to or something. If you do, you're pretty weird.
The dojo is always open for sparring and practice. If there's any sparring errand you've slacked on, now's the chance to make up! The horse stables are also full of activity, whether the horses are being tended to or rode around-- be careful not to let them trample the fields, though, which is full of rice sprouts and budding cabbage. The lake in front of the saniwa(s)' room has tiny frogs jumping about, and you could catch them in the palm of your hand.
The kitchen is full of food, if you're volunteering to make lunch or have decided that meal time cannot possibly come any later and you simply must prepare something before you die from starvation. While there has been a considerable effort made to make the Citadel look as homely as possible to the swords which come from Japan's past, there's speckles of technology here and there.
The TV room is a good example, with a huge screen sitting on top of a few console systems. Don't break them, you'll only be getting this luxury once. Take turns and play nice. The swords may also find themselves tending the fields with water sprinklers and hoses instead of watering cans, for instance, or heating up some leftover pie in the fridge instead of making another one from scratch since there's technology to preserve food well over a week. The armory and smithy are definitely a little bit more modern than they'd be back in the past, though much is still made by hand-- nothing beats the fine work of a master. Perhaps you'll have a few new friends today, or you want to try creating a cute little soldier spirits todie for you accompany you in battle. Make sure they enter the orb completely, or else it'll turn brown and crack.
Or perhaps you're one of the unlucky swords still stuck in the repair room, sword body still being re-smelted and fixed. Hope the saniwa is good at making you all shiny. If you want to skip all that waiting, perhaps you can try to use a helper token... but they're all in the saniwa's room! Guess you've got to use that Camouflage stat...
But if you truly cannot bear with staying in the Citadel, the time device the saniwa(s) have isn't locked away. You can go on sorties or expeditions to fill your time with something productive.
Just a warning: don't change the past. You won't succeed.
...You could always try, though.]

"Moderners like it a lot, but to each their own." Who could have made it, though... did someone order takeout again.
no subject
"Long as someone round here knows what they're doin'..."
no subject
"Well, I think it's a modern thing." Humans are strange. "The saniwa or one of the other humans might have left it here."
But anyway. He has the miso soup bubbling away merrily, and it does smell nice.
no subject
"Yeah, that'd make sense." He nods and steps back - and then over to take a look at the soup bowl himself. And a sniff. That's definitely more like it.
"Y'know, I probably oughta learn to do that stuff myself, huh?"
no subject
"I can teach you, if you'd like." It won't hurt to have more cooks around.
no subject
At least he's not going to have trouble getting stuff off the top shelves? But the rest of what's in here still has him rather baffled, to say the least, and any help he can get with this whole situation's appreciated. Still, he's not going to get anywhere if he just sits around and goes 'this is weird'... he's got to get in there swinging!
no subject
"What do you know, for starts? Can you cook anything?"
Best not to repeat instructions, oops.

Mitsutada looks surprised for a few seconds, but he quickly covers it up with a few rapid blinks.
"We can start from the basic things, then. I doubt I'd need to teach you the simple stuff like boiling eggs and noodles, but I can do the rest, yeah."
With that, there is a ting and the rice cooker goes off.
"Oh, that should be done too." The scoop should be somewhere in the cupboards... "Do you want pickles on that?"
no subject
He pauses for a moment, nods - "Sure. Throw 'em on there," - and runs the rest of the ideas around in his head. "I think I can manage chuckin' stuff in hot water, yeah. But anythin' else would be good."
no subject
With practiced ease he fills a bowl with rice, dropping some pickled ginger on the top as garnish. He shows it to the other sword for a few seconds before setting it aside, moving on to working on the other dishes.
"Heat is a basic thing for cooking, and boiling things is a very good way of getting things done. There's a lot of technique that goes into it, though, especially for the more complicated stuff."
A pause.
"But we'll start with the basics, of course. Have you been on sorties often?"
If not, they could do it when they're both free.
no subject
He nods, though, as he sees the rice sorted out - that'll do just fine, he thinks. At least it looks a lot less weird than the pizza.
"I ain't been out a lot... but what's that gotta do with cookin'?" Pretty sure he's missing something here...
no subject
"Ah, I'm needed quite often on the front lines too, so I'd need to check our schedules." Problems with being both an effective sword and an effective
housewifecook... "But if you're around a lot, that makes things easier."If anything, the older sword could always hang out with the jijis.
no subject
"Yeah, I get ya," he replies. "I guess I ain't gonna be sittin' around here forever - but while I am, might as well do somethin' useful, right?" And boy, is that a weird concept after all this time...
no subject
"I think you'll be on the front lines soon, if the other older swords' experiences are anything to judge by." That was what they were made for, most of them. "Though how often will depend on the Saniwa's decision."
She always made good ones.
no subject
But for now... he's back to peering around the kitchen.
no subject
While Futsu looks around, he starts pulling things out of the fridge.
"Are you alright with salad?"
no subject
The question takes a moment, but he replies - "Yeah. Go on. That's just ... vegetables and all that, right?" Surely something like that can't be too messed up?
no subject
"Vegetables, yes. Let's see..." Hmm... "We've got some carrots, lettuce, cucumbers... who took the pickles jar?? - tomatoes, stuff like that." A frown, as he tries to remember who usually eats the pickles.
"I'll throw together something quick, yeah. Do you like Japanese style, or something else?
no subject
Futsu scratches his head - "As long as it actually looks like food, I'll give it a go."
no subject
"It's all in the flavour, really. Our cooking emphasizes on texture and quality, foreign foods have different things." Lots of different things, too. "There're people who use spicy sauce, sour sauce, all kinds of them."
Which reminds him.
"It's mostly an 'each to their taste' sort of thing here, though. Sometimes we have foreign food days, you'd be able to try them then."
no subject
"... There are? Huh. Suppose I oughta at least try somethin'." After all, with everything else being so new, what's a few new flavours...
