( It’s been a slow day at the citadel, at least, for actual shounen-notmermaid-turned-person, Mutsunokami Yoshiyuki. He’s finished his field work with plenty of time and energy to spare and without any missions to go on, he’s decided to have some fun for himself.

… Unfortunately, a certain saniwa has hidden their phone away. Wow, talk about no fun. He really wanted to play that one game again. You know, that one game everyone is playing these days according to the colorful ads on tv. He was getting the hang of it the other day. Actually, he’s pretty sure he was even winning! And he was making so many new friends with those “invites.” Well, you can hide your technology from Mutsu but you can't defeat him.

As much as he enjoys this new time, he still enjoys a lot of the old traditions, just like his first master. Which is why you can find him outside, crouched on the ground in front of a small fire pit, roasting some yams he picked while working the field earlier. It's a little out of season but the seasons don't run his life, they don't control his story.

Before you can ask (were you even going to?) Mutsu notices you hanging around and beckons to come over. Yes, even if you’re a particularly stubborn Shinsengumi sword. )

( He was going to pass a stick over for Shishiou to use but at the question, he just ends up pulling his hand back for a moment. )

Ya can only eat yams when its cold 'n drink sake when the petals're fallin`? There a special reason ya can't eat what ya want when ya want?

[ Shishiou's eyes widen at this new perspective. THESE NEW SWORDS ARE SO PROGRESSIVE. ]

Uwah, I never thought about it like that before...! Does that mean we can have hot pot in summer and shaved ice in winter!?

Uwohhhhh! [ PUMPS HIS tiny FISTS. He's all fired up. Mutsu is so right. So right. ] Then give me two, no, three roasted yams, Yoshiyuki!

( Can you even eat three yams... BUT WHO IS HE TO STOP A FRIEND FROM GETTING THE MOST IN LIFE. He'll toss over another stick or two while getting one yam set up for him. Look, he only has two hands so he can't do all of the work this time. Someone get these two matching YOLO t-shirts... )

C'mon, c'mon, these yams aren't gonna cook themselves!!

[ THEY CAN'T BE TAMED. Shishiou takes on this job with gusto! What's a little detour if it means delicious roasted yams for him? Well, him and— ]

The old man's gonna love these, hehe. [ He chuckles while setting up two yams for himself. ] Oh man, you picked so many...

Well there're a bunch of us here now, right? Gotta make sure there's enough for everyone. ( Even those gumi swords. ) Food's better when ya share it with friends anyway.

[ A FREE SHOUNEN SPIRIT NOT BOUND BY THE SEASONS... Mutsu's an inspiration to old fart swords everywhere. He sings a little as he cooks the yams over the fire. ]

Huh? Hmm... ( Turning his yam over the flame a bit, thinking for a moment, ) I dunno. I guess if the master didn't like 'em there wouldn't be so many growin`? But they're also pretty easy to grow...

( Actually, what does their master like? He could name all of Ryoma's favorite foods and drinks all of these years later but he hasn't known this one for as long. )

[ Shishiou is not opposed to more friendship yams. Never. ]

Guess so. Come to think of it, I dunno a lot about the master in the first place. If we knew more about 'em, I bet we could work better together. As a team, you know?

[ He lowers his gaze in thought. ]

But that's kinda hard to do since the master's so busy...

( Then maybe in the summer they can try to fish and in the fall they can go beat up some chestnut trees... friendship events all around. For the latter they can even drag some of the tiny tantou along while they hit the branches. )

Y'know? Ya're right. ( Mutsu doesn't know a whole lot about the master either which is kind of a shame. Who knows how long they might be together! They should try to learn as much about each other as they can. ) D'ya think any of other guys might know somethin`?

( Who is even the secretary here... Maybe they know? WHO IS SANIWA STARTER NOT MUTSU. )

Kinda makes ya wish ya could do more, huh?

( Poking at his yam now, ah... yeah, it's ready but he's gonna let it cool off a little bit (see: not enough). )

[ WHO IS SANIWA STARTER that is a good question. It will forever be a mystery. He pokes at his yams too, but he's really just copying Mutsu. ]

Yeah... I dunno who would, though. [ Beat. ] Oh, I know! We can go to the beach! I haven't been there before, but the master says that's where you go with your friends when you're on vacation. I wanna go!

[ In the end, it's just something he wants!? ]

Ya're kiddin`! Ya've never been to a beach before?

Bwahaha, I was forged on an island so I used to see the beach all the time! ( Not so much in recent years ever since he was locked up in a museum. But hey, some times he would see visitors that had clearly just come back or were planning on going. ) It's great 'n I've heard it's even better now than it was before!

( They sell things on beaches now! Like ice cream! And soda! )

Really? That's so cool! I heard they came up with all sorts of games you can play there. Then... then you can get a bottle of soda after! You've tried it, right? Soda!
