( It’s been a slow day at the citadel, at least, for actual shounen-notmermaid-turned-person, Mutsunokami Yoshiyuki. He’s finished his field work with plenty of time and energy to spare and without any missions to go on, he’s decided to have some fun for himself.
… Unfortunately, a certain saniwa has hidden their phone away. Wow, talk about no fun. He really wanted to play that one game again. You know, that one game everyone is playing these days according to the colorful ads on tv. He was getting the hang of it the other day. Actually, he’s pretty sure he was even winning! And he was making so many new friends with those “invites.” Well, you can hide your technology from Mutsu but you can't defeat him.
As much as he enjoys this new time, he still enjoys a lot of the old traditions, just like his first master. Which is why you can find him outside, crouched on the ground in front of a small fire pit, roasting some yams he picked while working the field earlier. It's a little out of season but the seasons don't run his life, they don't control his story.
Before you can ask (were you even going to?) Mutsu notices you hanging around and beckons to come over. Yes, even if you’re a particularly stubborn Shinsengumi sword. )
Hey! C'mon over here!

Hey! C'mon over here!

What's up?
[ Though he doesn't come over immediately, instead retrieving a comb from inside a pocket and neatening his hair before he starts to make his way to where Mutsunokami is. ]
no subject
OH MY GOD AHAHA WHO ACTUALLY CARRIES A COMB AROUND WITH THEM LIKE THAT... it's not that it's funny, really! That's serious devotion to appearances. He can respect that. )
Take a break, ya're makin' me look bad!

(It's very important, okay?)
He crouches down to be on the uchigatana's level, peering at the fire pit. ]
I'm just looking around. [ Says the person currently carrying a bunch of weeds that he pulled out... ] Nothing much, really. What're you doing?
no subject
Lookin` around? Looks more like work if ya ask me. ( You can't fool him. ) Nothin` much.
( SEE??? THIS IS REALLY "NOTHING" NOT WHAT YOU'RE DOING. )
Just thought that since there're so many, no one would notice if we cooked a couple, right? Haven't gotten a chance to roast yams in awhile.
( Because. You know. Sorry for not being here during the fall or winter. SORRY FOR SHOWING UP OUT OF SEASON, EVERYONE SIDE EYING MUTSU IN THIS POST )

He chuckles a little at Mutsu's words, looking suitably embarrassed to hopefully make up for it. There was an attempt, okay? ]
I think it'll be fine. If the cooks are worried, I can always throw them a couple of substitutes. [ Not just actual root vegetables, but also recipes. Plus, yams are Mutsu's favourite things, aren't they? No harm letting someone get what they like. ] Not that it'll make a significant dent in our supplies, anyway.
[ The tachi gestures a little to the uprooted weeds in his hand. ]
Mind if I toss these into the fire?
[ He was intending to burn them anyway, might as well. ]
no subject
Help ya`rself. ( Toss those weeds. Erase all the evidence of a certain someone's hard work... yes. ) And take a seat.
Ya aren't allowed to work again 'til I say so. Wouldn't wanna overwork ya`rself.

Maybe, if they get more people, it might be possible. But for now, they'll have to settle with shopping for fish. ]
Thanks. [ Mitsutada snaps the bundle in half, frowning at the jagged stems for a few seconds before tossing them in. Unevenness can't be helped if he decides to do it this way - maybe he should have cut them instead.
He sits down next to Mutsu, giving the other enough personal space but not being far away enough to be impolite. ]
Ah ha, but if I don't do the work, then who will?
[ Look, he's just cleaning up after people like a totally
nicecool guy, okay? ]
