( It’s been a slow day at the citadel, at least, for actual shounen-notmermaid-turned-person, Mutsunokami Yoshiyuki. He’s finished his field work with plenty of time and energy to spare and without any missions to go on, he’s decided to have some fun for himself.
… Unfortunately, a certain saniwa has hidden their phone away. Wow, talk about no fun. He really wanted to play that one game again. You know, that one game everyone is playing these days according to the colorful ads on tv. He was getting the hang of it the other day. Actually, he’s pretty sure he was even winning! And he was making so many new friends with those “invites.” Well, you can hide your technology from Mutsu but you can't defeat him.
As much as he enjoys this new time, he still enjoys a lot of the old traditions, just like his first master. Which is why you can find him outside, crouched on the ground in front of a small fire pit, roasting some yams he picked while working the field earlier. It's a little out of season but the seasons don't run his life, they don't control his story.
Before you can ask (were you even going to?) Mutsu notices you hanging around and beckons to come over. Yes, even if you’re a particularly stubborn Shinsengumi sword. )
Hey! C'mon over here!

Hey! C'mon over here!

Nakigitsune has yet to try, but we would happily accept a drink if you are offering!
[Eager fox is always eager!]
1/3
Wah?! ( MUTSU CAN'T BELIEVE HIS EARS ) Ya can't be serious!
( HE'S GONNA FIX THIS )
no subject
( Wait.. Can he offer? Well, of course not now... I mean, he doesn't have any on him. Is there any in the citadel? Would saniwa trust these guys with alcohol?
But then... oh gosh.
This actual precious cinnamon roll... )

We're gonna have a party and ya'll're gonna be the first ones invited, got it?
no subject
He might also have lowered his yam a little too close to the fire.]
Oh, that's very kind of you, Mutsunokami-san! Nakigitsune is overwhelmed! This is truly a day of new experiences all around!
no subject
( No more sitting in a museum for him. He's gonna live again!!! )
Heh, and don't worry; I'll make sure to start ya off nice 'n slow when we start pourin`.
( They're going to make this a good time and not one where Nakigitsune regrets it the next morning and swears to never drink or talk to Mutsu ever again.
... Sniff, sniff. )
Woah! Not too close, not too close!
no subject
But that yell gets him to turn back to the fire, confused.]
Ah-- [Saving the yam!?] Aaahh, don't burn it, Nakigitsune, it won't taste as good if you do!!
Sorry.
no subject
Huh? 'S nothing to be sorry for. Some people even like their's a li'l extra crispy so don't worry about it. 'Sides it's just the outside! The inside is what really matters.
no subject
...You might actually convince him to believe that.]
The inside... [Ah, he's curious. Can he say it's ready now? Staring at it...] Does it taste better crispy?
no subject
Well, ya gotta get the right balance. ( Watch and learn, watch and learn, ) When the skin's a li'l dry 'n it looks a bit like paper like... like that! ( Yeah, you got this, Naki. ) Then it's perfect.
( Speaking of, his own yam is finished and he's definitely about to help himself to it when a thought comes to mind, )
But if ya want a really crispy one... Master's got these things in the kitchen called "chips" that're really great.
no subject
But if the skin's apparently perfect then that means it's done, right!? Naki pulls his own yam back from the fire, taking his first bite. Mmmmm tasty. The fox pauses a moment before digging in himself though:]
Oh, we've tried those chips before! Master once left an open package on the counter. [Because tiny fox can't help himself sometimes.] They tasted quite interesting!
no subject
Also he might have taken too big of a bite of his own yam and is doing that HOT HOT HOT dance, fanning to cool his mouth down before speaking again, )
Yeah? What'd it taste like? I heard master say there were tens... nah, hundreds ( !!! ) of flavors!
( AND GUESS WHO HAS TWO THUMBS IS GOING TO BE ON A QUEST TO TRY THEM ALL )
no subject
Gosh, it's a good thing he's careful, or he might've ended up doing the hot dance too...though actually the fox is doing something similar, having also taken a really big bite just now.]
....Tomatoes.
[They were ketchup-flavored.]
no subject
No way! I haven't had that one yet. Last time the master got seaweed 'n the regular kind. Who'd've though you could do so much with potatoes?
Gwahaha, it makes ya wonder what other foods this age has. Doesn't that make ya hungry?
no subject
This modern age is truly amazing, to give potatoes such a wide variety of flavors!
[Naki's just gonna nod and eat more yam, because--yes, this conversation's a hunger-inducing one.]
