Citadel Meme
![]() |
001. Newcomer. Smithed or obtained from battle, a new sword has arrived at the citadel. Are you getting the citadel ready for them? With enough swords in the citadel, it might be hard to figure out which room to fit their bed in. Or maybe you're the new arrival being greeted and touring your new home. Hey, what's your favorite food? The saniwa will want to prepare a special meal for you. 002. Returning. You've just returned from a mission. Ideally, you're raining cherry blossoms as soon as you set foot on the citadel's grounds but that isn't always the case. Some times swords come home tired to the bone. Some times, swords don't return at all... 003. Leaving. That sure is your name on the wall telling you to get ready for a mission. Pack up your things, say your good byes, and gather up your team mates. Hey, where are you going anyway? Is it somewhere familiar? Or somewhere you've never been to before? Regardless, this is an order so gather up your courage and steel yourself for the task at hand. 004. Guests. It doesn't happen often but sometimes guests from other citadels come. Some come from generous citadels-- allowed to reunite with old friends and family for a short time. Others are here purely for business which means it's time to brush up in the practice hall and show these punks who has the best citadel. 005. Chores. It isn't all fight fight fight at the citadel. While people are away at the front, the people back home have their roles to fill too. Feed the horses, tend the gardens, make sure everything is in one piece so the squads have a home to return too. ... Did you just break another screen door? 006. Dueling. To assess the saniwa, inter-citadel matches are held regularly. This is different from regular friendlies, though-- here, you're fighting to be the very best. Scores are awarded and... what are those grades even for? Well, it goes on the saniwa's record so it must be important... 007. Special exercise. No, no, no! Something isn't right but what is it? Are you absolutely useless on a team? Or maybe your performance has plateaued and regular training exercises aren't working? Well, it's time to pack up and go on a special training exercise. But what is it? Wrestling bears! Standing under waterfalls! Sitting in a room until you talk out whatever is wrong?! Or maybe we came into this with low expectations and the goal is to just not to die. 008. Attacked. This is a war, though, and it's foolish to expect the battles to be fought only on the frontlines. The enemy is becoming more bold and there are reports of citadels being attacked. Are you prepared for the attack because it's happening right now. Or is this one of the first citadels and you're completely caught off guard. 009. Fallen. What happens when a citadel falls? When a saniwa dies and the swords are left on their own until a new saniwa arrives? The citadel is abandoned, broken swords can be found in the garden. Will a new saniwa ever come home? 010. Wildcard. Choose your own adventure! |

casually touches all over this meme LET'S GO 2
This is one of those times.
And as he and the rest of the team shuffle their way back into the Citadel, various other swords perking up to acknowledge their return, he wants nothing more than to go to his room, curl up on his futon, and sleep for at least a week.
See, this last foray into the past had been especially difficult and tiring. Fight after fight with almost no breathing time, the enemies growing stronger and at a faster rate than they had expected...
Not to mention his blade, sheathed safely away, aches. He's not horribly damaged, not enough that it's an emergency, but Kanesada definitely doesn't feel great. He's not at 100% and he's most assuredly not presentable to anyone, saniwa or sword alike.
It's why he goes straight to his room, hoping not too many people see how awful and dirty he is, and gingerly lays down his vessel before dropping the rest of the way to the bed. He'll wash later. He'll change clothes later. He'll go in for repairs later. For now, it's time to rest.
He doesn't even have the strength to slide his door closed.]

Okita's probably off somewhere with her own swords, but in the meantime of course Nobu's going to hang out with her own. Because they're the best swords here?? Obviously??]
Ah, it's really a shame you know. I would have loved to bring you back with me, Hasebe. You...and fudou...and yagen...
[All of you guys really.]
no subject
Kikkou's there, staring at the wall where the squad assignments are. His hand is raised to his chin, looking a little amused.
Whenever Hasebe take a look, he would soon see why.
They're both in the same squad for the week. Please pray for their poor squad captain.]
It seems like we'll be working closely together for a while.

2!
and he does, facedown on his futon. ]
Kunitoshiii. Want dango.
[ an extremely muffled and impolite request!! ]
Kikkou Sadamune
no subject
Either way, it's a blustery day and he's still not moving. Save for one shuffle of his clothes as he glances over his shoulder. ]
Ne... could you close the window? The leaves are getting inside.
[ But he's closer to the window... ]
no subject
Or they could be Akashi Kuniyuki. It's hard to get worked up hearing that from his old friend (?). Kikkou glances over and raise a brow.]
Aren't you closer to the window, Kuniyuki?
no subject
It's too much trouble... All you have to do is slide it shut anyway.
[ It's a half yawn-half drawl in his speech. Clearly, like any napping cat, he's found the perfect spot on the tatami and is reluctant to move from it lest he lose it completely. ]
no subject
I could, but I could also choose not to listen to you.
[His feet are almost close enough to nudge the tachi. Almost.]
no subject
You could. But someone's going to have to clean out the leaves eventually.
[ Is this a test of willpower? ]
no subject
Eventually. Either it's right now, or later on.
[Quite possibly. But who will break? He chuckles.]
I would imagine someone may come along and tell us to do it. [Mmm, orders. He kind of hope for the Saniwa to walk in on them.]
no subject
It can wait, mm? Maybe I should've said I was ordering ya to close the window.
no subject
So you want to order me around, Kuniyuki?
[Time for Playful (?) Banter. Or negotiation? ??]
no subject
Close the window, could ya...
[ And emphasizing every syllable. ]
Ki~ ko~ u~
[ Apparently flirtatious negotiation. ]
no subject
Oh, I can do it...
[He tilts his head, curiously.]
But what will I get in return?
no subject
There was a hum of thought though as he propped himself up with his elbow. ]
Plenty of room on this futon for two.
no subject
Are you offering to sleep with me?
[... Nap times, or...]
no subject
Ya look like ya need the company.
no subject
I wouldn't mind some company, Kuniyuki.
[Yes, he always wants company. Life is hard with his historical ties and how other swords vie for their master's love.]
no subject
We got all afternoon. Saniwa already picked the formation and sent out the expedition guys.
no subject
That's nice.
[To keep on following orders, or risk punishment when others find out? He leans forward to whisper into Kuniyuki's ear.]
Just this once, for you.
Yamanbagiri Kunihiro
Akashi Kuniyuki
Namazuo Toushirou
"I got burnt and part of my memories are missing, but I won't look back at the past!"
[Namazuo's a lucky sword, when it comes down to it. He's had his share of trials and tribulations, but unlike so many other swords, he'd ended up in a museum with some of his close friends nearby. He's a genuine Toushirou, surrounded by a loving family, and even if he remembers the pain of being burnt, it's easy enough to keep smiling and move forward. This is a fresh start, and he's eager to meet his comrades and learn about their way of life here.
Just one problem--having a physical body is weird.]
Oops! [Bump.] Ouch-- [crash] Ahh, walking is so strange, isn't it?
[someone help him before he breaks everything in this room]
Chores
[Do I even have to write anything for this THERE ARE HORSES LET'S GO]
Fallen
[It's never been this quiet.
His breathing is too loud, he thinks, as he drags himself down the steps, into the garden. Or what's left of it, anyway. Scraps of steel are scattered everywhere, amongst broken beams and trampled flowers. He's heavily damaged, but he's alive, and tears stream down his face as he clutches his vessel close to his body. He leaves a trail of blood behind him, but it's impossible to tell, with all the stains and burns on the wreckage of their once-idyllic home.]
Hello...?
[He can't be the last one. Please, please, don't let him be the last one.]
fallen;
He's not the last one, at least.
Unsurprisingly, Ichigo is frantic. He should've known that eventually, something like this would happen. Eventually, they'd no longer be able to hold the line.
Eventually, they'd hit an end--there's always an end. He should know that better than anyone. But even so... he has to find his brothers. He has to find them, and he has to protect them, and he refuses to believe that maybe... maybe they're not all okay.
No, he can't even contemplate that, and so he runs. There's blood on his uniform and chinks in his blade, but even so he remains standing strong, shoulders straight--until he sees Namazuo, and then his eyes widen, and then he's dropping all pretenses of dignity to hurry towards him.]
Namazuo...!
I'm hurt
He can't really fight in this condition, but what choice does he have? His sword is already out, and he lifts it warily, exhausted but determined to defend his home--his family--until the end.
But then the familiar sight of his brother appears before him, and he nearly crumples with relief.]
Ichi-nii...! [It kind of hurts to move, and it definitely hurts to sheath his sword, but he does it anyway, fumbling closer. As soon as he's able, he's reaching out to make sure it really, truly is his brother. Trembling hands fist in Ichigo's clothes, and he just barely manages to resist burrowing into his brother's chest and letting sobs of despair take him over.] I'm so glad, I thought... I was afraid you'd...
you started it
He doesn't know where his other siblings are, and that's enough to leave him cold. He has to hold onto what he has--he has to, because he doesn't know what's left.
Slowly, shakily, he breathes in, and when he speaks, his tone is low and soothing.]
There is nothing to be afraid of. The others are also here somewhere. [A lie, he thinks.]
They will be fine. [Another lie.]
I will not leave you. [That one, at least, is truth, presuming it's within his power, and he doesn't break in the defense of his brother.
But really... he wonders that he's always been so good at lying, if only for them. (His master had been good at lying too, hadn't he? For a moment, he almost contemplates being grateful to him for that, in this the worst of times.)]
DON'T SHIFT THE BLAME
...I'm sorry. I should've-- I could've scouted more, I should have checked the perimeters-- [Nevermind that none of them had anticipated an attack like this. Defense of a stronghold is something they really, really should've done, and they'd all failed equally at that. Once again, Namazuo hadn't been able to stop the enemy from breaching their walls. Once again, he'd been powerless to protect their master.]
TOO LATE, I BLAME YOU
[The way Ichigo hushes him is gentle, and almost sweetly--like he would hush unhappy whining, or complaints about having to go to bed too early. It's light, and easy...and a little out of place.
But it's the only way he can be right now, to cope with this.
He can't handle thinking too hard about anything else that's happening.]
Do not blame yourself--not right now. [Not ever, really, but especially not right now.] There are still things we must do, and...we shall not be able to do them if we cannot stand tall.
[They can't stand tall.
They won't find any of their friends.
They won't find their family.
They won't find their master.
But... if they stand tall and they pretend... maybe it won't be that way. (Ichigo wishes that he was better at lying to himself, like he is at lying to others.)]
STOP I'M PURE
He's always trusted Ichigo. More than their masters, more than himself, more than anyone. Ichigo is the one whose seen him at his worst, in those moments when weakness overtook him, from blood or flames or the lack of memories without them.
Ichigo is telling him these things, and Namazuo wants so, so badly to believe them. So he trusts. Their home is falling to pieces around them, the smell of blood strong on the air, almost as notable as the lack of ringing steel. But Namazuo clings, and he trusts, and he believes. And he nods.]
What do you need me to do? [It's a weak, watery question, barely loud enough to be heard. But if Ichigo has some direction for him, if they can... if they can start to organize some kind of... if they can just...
(There's nothing, and they both know it.)]
no subject
Otherwise, there'd be nothing.
Just like how there's nothing around them but ashes.
Ichigo takes a deep breath.]
Stay by me. We need to stay close together right now. [When Namazuo may be the only left, the only of--]
We will do what we can to find the others now.
[But...they won't find anything at all.
How long can they search before their strength runs out?]
Yamato no Kami Yasusada
[Because option 1 is basically Hanamaru...
But Yamato isn't a newcomer anymore, and he hasn't been for a while. The flow of history has been leading up to this, and he's been on enough sorties by now that he's seen other swords struggling with the past firsthand. It's never a pretty sight, but the wealth of personal experience, it seems, is greater than the risk of a corrupted sword.
Still, it's something of a shock to see his name up there, when the time comes.
July 1864. Kyoto. Ikedaya.
There isn't much time to think about it. The team needs to meet up, to prepare, to establish a plan of action. But Yamato just stands there, staring at the wall, and it doesn't look like he's going to be moving anytime soon.]
Special Exercise
Oraaaa!!!
[So, Yamato is not the best teammate ever.
No one is surprised.
But look, he's more than willing to wrestle a bear if it means he wins?! IS THAT EVEN THE CHALLENGE no, no it isn't but that sure is Yams charging at a bear anyway...]
Attacked
[They'd been foolish, he thinks--or he will think, when there's time for that. They should've expected a direct attack. They should've planned and prepared, and with the swords they have around, you'd think even an ambush would've been easily dealt with.
But the enemy has spared no energy on this, clearly intent on wiping them out in one fell stroke. They're the strongest enemies yet, and with the element of surprise, the Citadel's already suffering heavy damages.
Yamato's uninjured, but only so far, and he's getting exhausted fast. But he's running as fast as his feet can carry him, searching for the leader, cutting down any enemies in his path. If he sees a friend in trouble, he'll dive in with an Oraaaaa!, but mostly, he's hunting for the biggest and strongest enemy of all.]
i hope you dont mind a really late tag but i had to; special exercise
Yamato!! Yamato!! That's a bear, Yamato!! Please calm down!
[MAYBE HE CAN KILL A BEAR she isn't really sure how these tsukumogami guys work...if they're super strong or not like a heroic spirit?! But until she is sure she is going to be worried sick over this shit.
she uses kiku-ichimonji though please dont think it means she doesnt love you]hahaha I'm so glad
[OKITA-KUN WHY DO YOU USE KIKU-ICHIMONJI you break his heart...
Also how can he calm down, he's busy? Winning?! Okita-kun pls he's totally strong... even though the bear is like twice his size...]
I'll kill you, little cub!!! [EXCEPT IT'S NOT A CUB and also he's not using his sword and also-- just save him.]
no subject
[Okay she's gotta put her foot down if he isn't gonna listen. Why are her swords so difficult to handle??? It made her legend sound really cool but at the same time...this is so troublesome............
So instead of giving chase normally at this point, she's just gonna shukuchi right over to him; an instantaneous movement, basically teleporting, and throws both arms around his waist to try and pull him back.]
You don't even have the build to wrestle a bear!! That's a bara move! A bara!!
[And you're a handsome, slender guy Yamato...]
no subject
But UGHHHh he can't resist Okita-kun... so he doesn't try to fight, instead going limp in her arms and pouting pitifully.]
But Okita-kun, didn't you want to win the game?
no subject
But...
Animals just kind of do their own thing? Killing one, even if bears are super dangerous, well...]
A game? Um...[She lets go, but is careful to make sure he isn't still limp. She doesn't wanna drop him..!!] Is there anything in the rules saying you have to kill it? What if you befriended it instead?
no subject
[SILLY OKITA-KUN WHY WOULD YOU THINK THAT (idk yams maybe because you literally just shouted it)]
It's a wrestling game! You just have to win against the bear! [IS IT... is this really the game... no]
